Mostari/Bridge-Keepers: The destruction and rebuilding of Stari Most as an exemplar of the impermanence of cultural identity Part 2 Dissertation 2017 Thomas Gregory University of Bath, UK The Old Bridge of Mostar, Stari Most, was destroyed in the Bosnian War 24 years ago as an act of cultural and ethnic warfare. The destruction of the Ottoman-built bridge was symbolic of the breakdown of multi-ethnic communities in former Yugoslavia and so its reconstruction was intended as a metaphor for reconciliation. This paper explores the limited impact of its reconstruction as a tool of reconciliation between different ethnic communities. Thomas Gregory Tutor(s) Robert Proctor
