On February 22, 2011, a major earthquake hit Christchurch, New Zealand and triggered the fifth most vicious ground acceleration ever experienced in the world. Today, Christchurch’s built environment, urban design and ensuing policy still suffers from this devastating economic, political and social catastrophe. This dissertation offers an investigation into the choices made by stakeholders in the aftermath of the disaster and explores place-making in conflict with political expediency.
