Furniture Funk – Repurposing with Fun Part 1 Project 2019 Guo Ming Foo National University of Singapore | Singapore What happens to furniture once it ‘expires’? We remember about reducing, reusing and recycling plastics, paper and waste even. How about furniture? At Furniture Funk, the life of furniture does not end. Pre-loved furniture are deposited here, where visitors could customise their own. The furniture could be repurposed and made into something completely unrelated to its original state and function. With this, we do not disregard buildings itself. Here, we prove that even buildings or industrial items could be reimagined. The architecture of “Furniture Funk” was inspired from an old railway station in Bangkok, where activities happen in buildings made up of industrial elements such as water tanks.In addition, ‘Furniture Funk’ was designed as a furniture version of an amusement park. It aims to include fun in the user experience as visitors recreate. Also inspired by the railway station, tracks and industrial systems such as pulleys are incorporated as transitional components that allow people to ride to different stations and engage in the various activities. Hence, at Furniture Funk, it was aimed for users to reconnect with their creativity and to allow a sense of connection with a personally designed piece of furniture while keeping fun into play.
