A Sanctum For Scully Part 1 Project 2021 Timothy Eves University of East London London | UK The project creates a typology cultivated from the art and mind of Scully where the “lines in-between animate the spaces”. An encapsulation of the soul of the client translated into architecture, it assists the aspirations of the Scully in both life and death by being a place to work, live and a means of connecting him to the community. It takes back contaminated privatized land and hands it to the people strengthening current social practices and uncovering practices lost to time.The proposal sits within the Hatton Garden Conservation Area, inhabiting the historic gap site at 77 Clerkenwell Road. To the community, it provides a four-floor bookshop, a free gallery, a route through the city, and a bus stop. For Scully, it provides a sanctum with two large studios, an archive, a garden, and a three-bedroom home with a temple on the roof surrounded by nature.The building acts as an open hand to the community bringing them in and enriching their environment.
