Wakefield Interchange is a proposed central hub for trains, buses, taxis and pedestrians, in the suburb. The integration of the transportation system is aimed to discourage private car use in the city, following certain cues from the recent urban regeneration initiatives by Yorkshire Forward. The introduction of a link across the station significantly increased the interaction between the previously disconnected residential and industrial areas. A cluster of contemporary fluid structures resulted following a series of explorations, hidden behind the intact Victorian façade; this project is also about the elegant affiliation between the old and the new.

This project resulted from an initial investigation exploring the composition of fluid forms and their potential relationship to a forgotten hinterland on the edge of Wakefield. The work also explored commuter’s perceptions and journeys. Her technical studies focussed on exploring the relationship between the raised waiting areas and the railway lines below. This was achieved through a number of highly articulated perspective studies, which showed a mature intelligent understanding of structure and skin. Overall a sophisticated urban project that is simple yet highly innovative in its approach and architectural resolution.
