The thesis is a response to the polluted waterways of the Landwehr Canal in Berlin, resulting from cultural eutrophication. The effects of high nitrogen content waterways have caused a significant decline in aquatic species over time.

The site of Lohmühlen Island proposes to provide natural and artificial methods of water remediation through architecture in the form of an aquaponics production system and consumption sites integrated through landscaping.
