India, Imperialism and Identity: Arthur Shoosmith

Part 2 Dissertation 2017

University of Liverpool | UK
Hidden amongst the shadows of Lutyen’s Imperial Capital lies the work of little known architect Arthur Shoosmith. Designing in one of the most dynamic architectural situations to have existed, this dissertation examines his work as a response to the four corner posts that define this milieu: Lutyens, Modernism, India and Empire. On the eve of a new era, what can Shoosmith’s buildings tell us about this unique position in history?
