This experiential research focuses on the Northwest of England exploring the potential for agricultural waste and re-imagined it as a renewable source for biomaterial eco bricks for new ways of architectural material application.

The concept of this research is to collect and investigate local agricultural residues and transform, reshape, refunction their practical material uses that could reinforce the material circularity and circular economy principle rather than continue to build with conventional carbon-intensive building materials. By repurposing agricultural waste to renewable materials this will shift the view on waste not as a disposal problem but as a valuable product that capable of shaping the sustainable construction. Through this experiential research waste materials are developed, testing, reforming, and examining the physical performance, fabrication process which aims to produce potential architectural lightweight bricks and panels that will help to provide environmentally friendly material solutions for future built environment.

This research is vital responds to the UK’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emission by 2050 which recognises the growing need for alternative building material solutions and new materials innovation in materials that embodied less carbon while promoting building the future efficient and responsibly in the UK’ future.

The findings provided from the research have greatly provided fundamental knowledge for the future waste material continued exploration, testing, refinement and future collaboration the whole spectrum building industries and academia. Ultimately, the project highly aligned with transitioning towards low-carbon architecture by proposing the local materials as a source for future innovation solutions for construction in the UK.
