Return of the Emperor: Sustainable Architecture and Urban Environmental Tools for Hong Kong to Regain its Political Autonomy

Part 2 Project 2018
Ivan Tsz Long Chan
Aarhus School of Architecture | Denmark
Since the handover of Hong Kong back to China in 1997, Beijing has asserted increasing control on the island’s democracy. As a response, the project seeks to regain and redefine Hong Kong’s political independence and resilience. The focus is on the spatial and political potential of occupying vertical urban space, and how infrastructure and architecture can empower the community by understanding urban wellbeing and environmental sustainability.
