Odyssey Part 2 Project 2019 Paul Richardson Arts University Bournemouth | UK 0.1 Odyssey A long and eventful or adventurous journey or experience.Odyssey is more than a mental health recovery centre for cognitive treatment and well-being, it is a result, a response to an underlying problem in society that had to take a large institution such as the RNLI to do highlight. The form and the space has been carefully crafted from deep innovative research that has seen the limits of making technology pushed to breaking point, hundreds of thousands of pounds of machinery struggling to produce the fine tolerances that my research demanded. Social exhibitions where collaboration with engineers and artists spread the exposed the research and allowed for the innovation that was used to become centre stage.The innovation was not only top specification machines but architectural knowledge and methods that allowed one to look at the brief from a different lens. This combination of collaborative, maker, design and academic approach to the issue of mental health has informed all stages of the odyssey.As an architect you are a BUILDER. You are of course more than a builder. You need to be a MILITANT, you have to be a POET, you have to be a VISIONARY and you have to be an ARTIST.
