This project envisions a sustainable electric monorail connecting Zugdidi to Mestia in Georgia’s Svaneti region—an area often isolated during winter due to extreme terrain and weather. The concept merges transportation infrastructure with social responsibility, aiming to bridge the physical and economic gap between remote mountain communities and urban centers.
The primary aim is to ensure year-round, safe, and ecological mobility while preserving the natural landscape and cultural identity of the region. The monorail provides a clean alternative to traditional road expansion, reducing carbon emissions and preventing further damage to fragile ecosystems. By enabling access to education, healthcare, markets, and tourism, the project empowers local residents and fosters regional development.

The outcome is not just a transit system, but a lifeline—a resilient thread connecting people, nature, and progress. Through careful integration of topography, weather conditions, and community needs, the project demonstrates how architecture and infrastructure can be tools for equity and inclusion.

This work highlights the role of architects in reimagining mobility as a form of care. The Zugdidi–Mestia Monorail is a response to both environmental urgency and social isolation, proposing a visionary yet grounded approach to designing for remote futures.
