Bloomworks: Where architecture blossoms with nature

Part 1 Project 2025

Bloomworks explores how architecture can act as a living system — one that supports both human wellbeing and ecological regeneration. Set within Manchester’s Castlefield district, the project combines an aquaponics garden biome, a boutique hotel, and a subterranean spa into a single interconnected space. The central concept was to use water as a life-giving medium specifically with an aquaponics space helping to educate people about the importance of food security and alternative food production methods for the future. The aim of the project was to create a richly layered and immersive experience — one that invites visitors to walk through zones of lush vegetation, listen to the gentle rhythm of flowing water, and relax in warm thermal baths beneath a thriving rainforest biome. The architectural language of Bloomworks draws directly from Manchester’s industrial past while projecting a vision of regenerative urban living. It is designed not just as a functional space, but as an emotional and sensory journey — one that brings people into direct contact with natural systems in order to foster empathy, awareness, and care for the natural world's environment. Together, these components form a space that invites reflection on our own relationship with the climate through emotional immersion and a renewed understanding of our place within the ecosystems we inhabit.
