The former Michl mill complex is a vital part of Szmulowizna’s heritage — a subdistrict of Warsaw’s historic industrial hub, Praga. Deeply embedded in the local community’s memory, the site’s revival is eagerly anticipated.

The Praga House of Crafts transforms the area into an artistic hub that responds to local artists’ need for workspace while serving the community as a cultural and meeting place. At the same time, it revitalises Michałowski Park, better integrating it with its surroundings. The restored granary hosts workshops for local artisans and craftspeople, complemented by a craft store in the existing gatehouse. A newly designed extension adds an exhibition space and café, creating a welcoming bridge between artists and the local community. These new functions harmoniously blend with the site’s industrial character, giving it a contemporary purpose while preserving its history. Opening up the mill site also enhances spatial, circulation, and functional connections with Michałowski Park and within the Szmulowizna district.

The design honours North Praga’s industrial legacy by offering a unique, neighbourhood- scale space. This development revitalises the site’s image for locals, attracts new visitors, and breathes fresh life into the area.
