A deconstructed statement, a parallax in its neutral context, a catalyst for shifted interpretation of space – the Centre of Urban Fragility is an exhibition mediatheque based in Spitalfields, London emerging as a response to the endangered state of urban environments and their authenticity.

The project traces the divide between the market’s commercial end and Banglatown, outlining the clash of social perception and use of space manifested through the contrast in physical appearance of urban surfaces. While analysing the technical, aesthetic, and wider cultural appropriation of materiality, Parallaxis examines the fragility of identity at the intersection of matter, media, and the urban construct.

Action is urgent – the temporary nature of these appropriated physical elements is continuously endangered by a wave of gentrification hindering their unseen value and disrupting memory and the passage of time through a neutrality of representation.

Parallaxis exhibits, projects, and discusses the delicacy and temporality of materiality and social identity to make a statement of valuing ownership, inhabitation, and authenticity of place.

Parallaxis occupies an existing building and is led by a method of cutting, wrapping, exposing and scattering fragments across the wider context allowing for a distortion of the ordinary perspective of the physical realm.
