The Metamorphic Ruins stems from the idea of metamorphosis, or more commonly, the process of changing over time, and is a landscape intervention that has been carefully designed in response to the ongoing Falkirk Climate Crisis. A sanctuary and archival storage landscape where humans, animals and ecology co-exist and thrive together. Situated along the Antonine Wall in Scotland, it integrates the remnants of past structures with contemporary ecological and archival strategies. Overall, ‘The Metamorphic Ruins’ spans a gross floor area of 2,000 sqm with a site span of around 7,000 sqm. It was designed specially to spread the ruins and follow a co-axial strategy that will run parallel to the Antonine Wall ruins. There will be three multi-storey spaces, with two being surveillance and bird-watching towers, and the other being the central learning centre where the workshops take place. The site will also incorporate sensory wayfinding to assist visitors with visual and cognitive impairments. This includes contrasting textures, handrails, and tactile markers along key pathways. Additionally, auditory guidance, such as subtle sound cues from water features and wind chimes, will support navigation while enhancing the immersive experience.
