The Centre for Slow News Part 1 Project 2025 Arthur Connolly University of the West of England | UK The Centre for Slow News aims to reframe quality journalism and access to reliable information as social infrastructure. The project site is a vast, underused out of town leisure centre, where leisure has been commodified and public space is limited. The masterplan reimagines the site as a ‘suburban citadel’ drawing people into a central meeting place where leisure is shared, ideas exchanged, and relationships forged. The Centre for Slow News ensures the democratic role of civic space endures in the information age. It houses a community owned news organisation alongside public amenities such as a library and a community pub, inviting the public into the news-making process. In an increasingly virtual world, it provides a physical space where the community can digest, discuss and debate the events that shape our world. Tutor(s)
