The Electricity Club Part 2 Project 2025 Luca Philo University of Sheffield | UK The Electricity Club, situated in Dundee, Scotland, reimagines an historic Jute Mill as a catalyst for a new, equitable food economy. Drawing close attention to lessons learned from the energy sector, the project challenges the disrepair of our current food systems by advocating for fairness, balance and excitement in the climate transition. As shifting consumer trends shape transformations in food production, consumption, and disposal, The Electricity Club is situated to support growth in the region. Through sensitive site transformations, The Electricity Club introduces a shared kitchen, community food larder, seasonal restaurant, and ‘future food’ production facilities. These interventions are designed to disrupt the pervasive financial logic of globalised and extractive cold-chain food systems. This project champions proven architectural methods, elevated through site-specific responses that are deeply engaged with existing stakeholders.By demonstrating how architecture uniquely understands the interconnection of systems and interplay of synergies and conflicts, it posits that addressing the socio-cultural and environmental challenges of the climate transition does not mean sacrificing economic or cultural prosperity.Foregrounding innovative, regenerative food practices and celebrating local food culture, The Electricity Club fosters transformative attitudes that align with local value systems. A place for a sustainable food future to emerge and thrive. Tutor(s)
