Roots:Routes is a project which aims to educate and involve Gosport through the means of a Permaculture Centre.

Within the prior masterplan, allotment centralised communities were developed, enriching the awareness of health to a wider audience. The building was then developed to act as a node for the community movement, a space aimed at getting people involved, as a tool for learning.

The form developed subsequent to the landscape, responding to the positive and negative space which the site paved.

Providing space for varied growing, external pavilions, and the main entity of the centre. The elevation provided habitat for surrounding invertebrates, which may have been displaced in the construction programme. Through dry stone plinths and the trellis forms which are mapped through the structure, allowing the building to act as a framework for growth, likened to a trellis within an allotment.

The building is made to feel as a part of the landscape, rather than closed off to it. The mass is split into 4 bodies, divided by routes through the site, all tucked within fragments of roof which respond to the surrounding trees, projecting the journey of agricultural growth.
