The Inverted Pyramid of Sipán: Lambayeque Convention Centre

The project stems from a simple yet profound concept for the Lambayeque region, its city, and culture. The inverted pyramid serves as a powerful symbol of social order within this culture, notably present in the Lord of Sipán's sceptre. The primary objective was to design a convention centre to host cultural, social, and political events in Lambayeque.

The aim was to create a catalytic building for the region, capable of establishing a new district hub for multidisciplinary cultural activities, featuring multifunctional spaces adaptable to various event types. Furthermore, the design sought to establish a morphological relationship with the immediate surroundings, generating urban spaces with significant cultural potential.

The outcome is a building that responds functionally while also acting as a catalytic core at various scales, connecting neighbouring cities and adjacent towns. From an urban planning perspective, it contributes to the city's order through cultural networks like pedestrian walkways, parks, and commercial and educational zones. Ultimately, the ground level is conceived as a large urban space. On the upper floors, semi-public plazas of varying sizes and heights create an integrative spatiality, linking the past, present, and future of Peruvian architecture.
