PRINTstream: The founding of a flexible and durable technology hub within the Royal Docks, utilizing the reinforced concrete structural skeleton of the derelict Millenium Mills building, to re-establish the site as a key node within the local and wider context. Motivated by a desire to juxtapose the attitude that ex-industrial areas within proximity to the city should be engulfed by gentrification, losing much of the existing fabric and community.

This project adopts a mindset of… what if all future products could originate from one master 3D printer, and my intervention offered a flexible hybrid working environment that offers an affordable and sustainable alternative to traditional avenues of manufacture - facilitating the design, development, manufacture, and sale of products for emerging designers and creative freelancers.

Spatially, the scheme focusses on a vertical axis that bisects the building to create the central atrium and celebrated circulation region, with privacy and use evolving as the form transcends. Internal vistas throughout the structure suggest various activities, garnering a hybrid attitude to working life through inquisition. A variety of spatial experiences and thresholds intertwined around the existing structural grid, delineates the various uses of each area, while promoting versatility and freedom of movement.
