Morava Revival: A Cultural Renaissance of Architecture and Clothing Part 2 Project 2023 Milana Levic Deakin University Geelong | Australia In the 14th-century and again in the 20th-century the Morava architectural style became iconic in its relationship to the revival of Serbian identity. After 1939 in desperation to flee war, poverty and political strain, migrating Serbians left behind their Morava architecture in search for a better life. Migrant communities attempted to recreate the Morava style, to establish familiarity. Due to lack of craftsmanship and cost - the vibrant ornamentation and embroidery was lost. In 1981 St Alypius was designed in the Morava ‘immigrant’ style as a cultural revival and the Monastery became a central hub for Serbian communities all across Victoria; but with subsequent generations this also faded. This design for a rakija distillery (traditional Serbian brandy) is a way to reignite the vibrancy of Serbian culture and architecture for all younger Australian and Serbian-Australian generations.
