The Spiral: Design of Multifunctional Building in Allihies Part 2 Project 2023 Adrian Matuszewski Cracow University of Technology | Poland The remains of the engine room building are an example of historical architectural fabric that has been forgotten and therefore destroyed. The project is an attempt to respond to the problem of forgetting by "restoring" meaning using new architecture and changing the function of a historic building.The concept assumes the creation of a multi-functional building - a place for a museum function (as an extension of the existing Copper Mine Museum), a number of multi-functional rooms, a hotel and a restaurant. The main idea was to propose a building - corridor that would enter into dialogue with the existing buildings through its shape, functional layout, and way of corresponding to the area and the monument; not overshadowing it, but supporting it in both a literal and metaphorical sense.The starting point for project was the symbolism of the ancient Celts. The triskelion is one of the oldest symbols of Celtic culture. It symbolizes the real and spiritual world as well as birth, death and rebirth. It became an inspiration in shaping the building plan.
