Seeds of Remembrance: Healing with plants at The Memorial Bio-Centre Part 1 Project 2025 Lea Malinovskaya University of Greenwich | UK "The Memorial Bio-Centre, situated in the Oxford Botanic Gardens, presents a fusion of nature, science, and historical precedents. Drawing inspiration from the Ziggurat of Ur in Iraq, the building employs a gradient cladding system with broken, fragmented parts across its exterior that accommodates the increased sunlight for optimal growth conditions.Involving an inverted Ziggurat at the center, built as a greenhouse with a dipped glass roof. The stepped form allows researchers to ascend through the greenery, studying medicinal plants in a more interactive manner. Allowing seamless access between floors, promoting transparency and collaboration across each sector. This project embraces Oxford’s geology through the use of Oolitic Limestone and monumental boulders, creating a grounded, ancient atmosphere. Visitors enter through a lower ground memorial space, designed to honour the lives of past medical researchers. This emotionally resonant space aims to inspire public engagement, encouraging contribution to ongoing vaccine and medical trials conducted on the first floor.By embedding a Bio-centre within the Botanic Gardens, this project addresses several critical issues: the need for sustainable, plant-based medicine, the importance of public and students involvement in research. Becoming both a learning environment and a living laboratory, helping shape a healthier, greener future for Oxford. Tutor(s) Alex Bilton George King
