This project aims to enable an alternative burial method in Hong Kong, with water cremation being the burial method chosen. Architecture is deployed to bridge the industrial nature of the process, and the ritualistic nature of funeral practices, encouraging the acceptance of the process. Water cremation is a chemical process with no harmful emissions, comparing to the high emissions stemming from traditional cremation being the main burial practice in Hong Kong.

The project identifies the lack of ritualistic funerary spaces in the efficient context of Hong Kong, and aims to enable both the elaborate funeral rituals, and moments of reprieve for the mourners, aiming to create a complete experience from memorial, cremation to burial, to imagine a complete burial package for this alternative process. The process of water cremation provides a catalyst for water to be a motif throughout the site and as a cultural symbol of life, accompanying the mourners through various stages of the process.

The project consists of 2 memorial halls, 4 cremation chambers and 9 outdoor columbaria with potentials for further expansion.
