The 'Elemental Geometries: Qasba Canal revitalization and reinvigoration' project aims to transform the Al Qasba Canal in Sharjah into a multifunctional urban space that integrates innovative stormwater management solutions with vibrant public areas. Witnessing the aftermath of April 2024 flooding, the dire need for innovative solutions to storm water management presented itself - hence, addressing the dual challenges of flooding and the need for enhanced social spaces, the design incorporates bioswales, filtration channels, and permeable surfaces, creating adaptive zones for residents and visitors.

Drawing inspiration from Deconstructivist architects like Peter Eisenman and Lebbeus Woods, the project features dynamic folding and rupturing forms that facilitate water flow while offering shaded, engaging spaces for the community. This sustainable redesign not only improves flood resilience and environmental performance but also repositions the canal as a cultural and social hub, contributing to Sharjah’s vision of urban sustainability and livability.

Ultimately, this project redesigns the Al Qasba Canal into a multifunctional urban space that combines various stormwater management systems with dynamic habitable public areas, to improve both environmental sustainability and social connections in Sharjah’s urban fabric.
