Albaseera School for Blind and Visually Impaired Children Part 1 Project 2025 Noor Alhosani Abu Dhabi University | UAE 'Albaseera School for Blind and Visually Impaired Children' reimagines inclusive education at the city scale of Abu Dhabi.The project’s name — 'Albaseera', an Arabic word meaning “insight” — reflects the core idea of perceiving the world through the heart and mind rather than through sight. It celebrates non-visual understanding and the power of architecture to shape dignity and autonomy. The school addresses a critical need in the UAE: the lack of purpose-built educational spaces for blind and visually impaired children. Current options are often outdated rehabilitation centres or general schools unequipped to meet their specific sensory and spatial needs.As a mother of two children, I believe deeply that every child deserves an equal opportunity to grow, learn, and feel included — regardless of physical ability. This belief shaped every design decision in 'Albaseera'. The architecture uses natural sunlight as a spatial and emotional guide, marking time and orientation throughout the day. Tactile pathways, acoustic cues, sensory gardens, and music rooms create a multi-sensory environment tailored to the needs of these students.More than just a school, 'Albaseera' is a civic statement of empathy, inclusion, and hope — a place where children can thrive beyond limitation and be seen for who they are.
