Our project is a two-storey, 5.6m-tall experimental timber pavilion that explores an innovative structural system. The concept draws inspiration from Le Corbusier’s Dom-ino structural system and Christian Kerez’s House with One Wall, rethinking the traditional roles of slabs and columns. The design aims to use the staircase itself as a primary structural support, thereby minimizing the need for vertical columns. This approach creates a novel architectural prototype where stair-like panel components functioning as both circulation space and structural supports that stabilise against deformation. With the utilisation of advanced structural simulation and robotic fabrication, we realized a statically determinate structure with minimal elements.

The full-scale tower was assembled rapidly using precisely- milled interlocking timber joints, integrating digital fabrication technology with traditional craftsmanship. The project repurposed locally sourced waste timber (such as wood from typhoon-fallen trees) for key structural elements, achieving sustainable and low-carbon design.

The completed tower stands as a tangible showcase of achieving creative concept with structural innovation, material efficiency, and the potential of intelligent construction in the future.
