About
The mission of the School is to build on its teaching and research excellence in developing an innovative, multidisciplinary approach to researching and teaching all aspects of architecture, planning, urban design, digital architecture, urban conservation and landscape architecture. From our analytical work on understanding contemporary places and place-making to our wide-ranging teaching in planning and design, the School forges new approaches to creating exciting synergies between education, practice and policy-making in the promotion of social cohesion, environmental sustainability and economic development. We have good facilities and our students benefit from an emphasis on personal tuition. In architecture the teaching is largely through studio design projects supported by lectures and personal research. The quality of teaching provision has been recognized by the award of an 'excellent' rating in the HEFCE teaching quality assessment exercise. Our aim is to develop an acute awareness of all aspects of the art of architecture and its supporting technologies. The results of staff research are fed into the programmes, and we have close links with the profession.
