About
Architecture at London South Bank University occupies a unique and distinct position in London. We are a progressive and innovative school that has its origins in Brixton School of Building. Our location which is close to the South Bank and major cultural instituitions such as Tate Modern and the Design Museum provides us with a dynamic learning environment. We offer all our courses in both full time and part time modes. The School aims to equip our graduates with the design, tools and intellectual skills required to make architecture and engage in a meaningfull way with the world around them.

Stundents think, draw and debate architecture globilisation ,sustainability, capitalism, technology, aesthetics and the future but we always return to the central challenge of designing and making architecture.

The culture of the school is founded on a creative dialogue with both the city, its culture, professional instituitions, and people. We are an urban school and our students use the city as an open learning environment or laboratory attending talks, exhibitions and participating in schools and workshops run throughout the city.

A strength of the school is both the diversity of our students and staff and our engagement with design, technology and wider cultural issues.

DESIGN
'the best thing about my architectural education at LSBU was that I learnt actively to think, design and operate critically in a changing environment'

We are a strongly design focussed course known by the distinctive quality of our graduates thinking and design work. Students are encouraged to be perceptive,to think creatively and to be equipped with cutting edge technical skills which enable them to evaluate and design their projects for the 21st century.

The ideology of the school is pluarlist and project work is informed by a range of design approaches and thematic interests and is not driven by one formal approach to architecture.

All our courses are currently recognised by the Royal Institute of British Architects and are prescribed by the Architects Registation Board. We offer all out courses on both a full-time and part-time basis. We maintain strong links with the professional bodies and practicing Architects.

The School operates a studio system of design teaching which reflects the particular interests of the staff, as well as the contemporary architectural debate.
At present the BA is arranged as a year structure and Diploma studios are arranged as two and th
