About
The School’s mission is to create a distinctive character for architectural education within the culture of Edinburgh College of Art. There are three distinct strands to this approach. The first involves maximising the potential of the School in a small specialist institution, which benefits from selective associations with other centres of learning, locally, nationally and internationally. Secondly, the School aims to develop an international reputation for high quality teaching and learning, which is nurtured by and supports research, knowledge transfer and practice. Finally, the School strives to establish an academic environment that encourages lifelong learning.
As with all other disciplines at Edinburgh College of Art, the learning experience which students take part in is based around the studio. Studio projects act as the focus that integrates issues from technology, environment, cultural context and professional studies.
Undergraduate, postgraduate taught programmes and research degrees are offered. Within the undergraduate programme students are encouraged to develop their knowledge, understanding and abilities in architectural design while satisfying the criteria for professional registration. At postgraduate level, while continuing to satisfy registration criteria, students are given the opportunity to diversify into the postgraduate and research specialisms of the School; architectural conservation, urban design, art and architecture.
