About
In a society where all design works tend to become standardized and disregard any cultural, historical or social sense of identity, while everyday architecture struggles with the standards imposed by industry and political powers and while the architecture of monuments settles indifferently on the surface of the globe; schools are the last hopes for insuring diversity of ideas, opinions and actions.
The École Spéciale d’Architecture was created over 140 years ago, emerging from a revolt against academicism. Ever since, it has found its creativity in its pedagogy and structure out of the ordinary, and tries to avoid a form of knowledge standardization. ESA must renew its ancestral promise: to be special.
Its promises:
- To encourage diversity: diversity of knowledge, of cultures, of practicing architecture without any sectarianism or ideology.
- To consider that producing architecture relies on research.
- To always push further the limits of imagination and of traditional design, all the while insuring a more global understanding of architecture.
- To facilitate the emergence of new relations between thinking and building, between industries, program and aesthetic.
- To insure that architects are free and critical thinkers, devoted to society in its dynamic evolution.
- To facilitate experimentation, imagination and innovation.
- To develop an international exposure.
