About The Department of Architecture mission and goals is to create a centre of excellence in design education, not only in close response to the dramatic changing needs of our society, the profession and the building industry, but to explore and develop theoretical frameworks through which, the Department is constantly engaged in dialogues with other institutions and governments at local and international levels.

The objective of our Department¡¯s curriculum focuses on developing a sense of community by emphasizing project-based design and learning. Our design programmes tend to be topical and diversified covering a wide range of topics and site locations both local and regional. This allows for flexibility and exposes students to various alternative design experiences.

For the past number of years we have focused our courses on the current climate of environmental ¡®crisis¡¯. As such, we have identified five environments, i.e. social, cultural, natural, technical and financial, which give direction to the built environment.

The fundamental goal of our curriculum is to develop our students¡¯ imagination and the ability to think independently and to form a keen appreciation of our local culture, national heritage as well as an acute awareness of the international trends of design.
